A progressive educational platform focused on creative inquiry and iteration, the whatnot studio is a unique opportunity in the School of the art Institute of Chicago’s Designed Objects program. This yearlong course grants students the space, time and resources to find their voince as independent designers working in a professional context. Designers in this year’s whatnot studio considered the complex relationship between food and borders through design and explored ho the food we consume is deptly entwined with global systems of production and profit, personal and cultural identities, politics, ethics, and the environment. The 2018 whatnot studio was directed by Pete Oyler and Jim TerMeer with support from teavhing assistant Duncan Bass.
The 2018 whatnot collection will be on exhibition and for sale during Salone del Mobile (April 17-22, 2018) at Spazio Rossana Orlandi (via Matteo Bandello 14, Milan).
