During my a residency at EKWC I explored the mosquito as a symbolic character representing life in the humid coastal regions of Oaxaca. The mosquito acts as a guardian of the jungle and avid protector of territory; as a character, the mosquito embodies resilience. In my work, the act of it being flattened by a human hand represents a micro-aggression; a diminutive form of violence that points to something larger.
